Passage, June 2010, Orestis Ntantos

My generation has no identity. My generation still lives with its parents and is not hungry, but is not independent, too. We grew up without problems and we do everything to keep going that way, shutting our eyes in front of the obvious dead end that we are living in. We don’t want to talk about the things that concern us. What songs can we write? We only want to lose ourselves by entertaining. In this way we totally imitate the American way of life. In order to produce a new piece of work, you have to really absorb what you receive and not to imitate. You have to have something to say, something to suggest.”

Orestis Ntantos

----------

We welcome for the month June a young musician, composer and song-writer, Orestis Ntantos. His entry in the Greek music scene in 2009 was an important music surprise.

His compositions are full of freshness and enthusiasm. Sometimes they become strong with a vigorous tempo and other times more lyric. But in all cases they bring with them a sensitive, full of solidarity and selflessness, exquisite and I would dare say sometimes a soul-stirring verse.

His songs carry with them the caring for all the problems of his generation, without causing any gloom or pessimism.

Orestis’ compositions feed with an original, modern and creative way a procedure of change in the Greek song.

He seems to dig deeply with a lot of respect into what was left from the previous generation of musicians, taking something of their breeze and learning from their art.

Orestis has a clear identity of his own, has distinguished himself from his first music work, has a great talent, strength, perspective and above all virtue. He undoubtedly belongs to the young great composers.

We site below some the verses of his songs and a short CV.

His songs will be broadcasted every Tuesday and Thursday 5 to 6 from the Greek stream of our program.

----------

So, I am sorry, but I don’t actually know where we are going,
If you want to come, come, you are a big girl
And you will decide, if you will move on or go back

I will go on; I take a deep breath and jump in,
I reach the bottom, and it’s not nice down there
Then I go up, I now see
I breathe again and now I see
You go through the thorns, you go through the thorns
Only for the effort of it

A knife, is held by an invisible hand
And every day, he repeats the same scary words
You will fight them or otherwise you will give them back to me
As you found them, and don’t count so many victories,
Because at the thorns, because at the thorns
Only the effort is the one that counts

I see the future, of the won trophies
And I say no, I put an end to my big goals
Because it’s a matter of luck, if there will be success in the end
And I don’t care, that I sleep with every woman who looks like you
No empathy….. No empathy
For those who make an effort

I am not jealous of them; I just like to take a look to
What the others have in their heads
Where they are different, since everybody can get back at you
Through these cuddling, that can leave a deep mark
Don’t stop, don’t stop…..
It’s your good effort

About what life (are you talking about), will you take something with you
How many of it will remain, and if all that you want, won’t be accomplished
Other things will happen, the ladder is high

I will not settle, even if I lose everything
No responsibility, let it never happen
I, my beauty, I love my nails
And I don’t regress to the first strong pain
And tell Death…
And tell Death, I will go whenever I fancy it….

----------

There are other people like me,
There are other people like us,
They live in their own world
Even if you fight against them.
In ordinary houses,
Normal children
Have deep in their chest
An overgrown heart.
You think you move me,
But you don’t even touch me,
You think I hurt when you hit.
You may order me,
But my heart is miles away
And this (my heart) you cannot touch, you cannot ruin.
There are others like me,
There are others like us
And they will start to hit,
If you don’t seize to hit
You think you move me,
But you don’t even touch me,
You think I hurt when you hit.
You may order me,
But my heart is miles away
And this you cannot touch, you cannot ruin.
There are others like me,
There are others like us
You will see them in the trains laughing when you laugh
